Super Mario 3D Land

During the Nintendo 3DS’s first year at retail, Nintendo released quite a few titles for it; unfortunately, many of these titles were ports of previous games, such as Starfox 64 3D and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. However, Nintendo had an ace up its sleeve the whole time: Super Mario 3D Land, a brand new game featuring Nintendo’s most beloved mascot, Mario. Super Mario 3D Land is an all new adventure spanning 96 levels across 16 worlds, combining 3D graphics with 2D gameplay. In a typical Mario plotline, Bowser has once against kidnapped Princess Peach and it is once again up to Mario to rescue her.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The Legend of Zelda series is one of Nintendo’s flagship series, having released more than 10 games across all of Nintendo’s systems. However, one could say the series was getting a bit formulaic, as the game always featured the same puzzles, combat and setting. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, releasing exclusively for the Nintendo Wii, looks to be just another typical Zelda game at first glance. However, when you dig a little deeper, you’ll see that Skyward Sword modernizes the series in a way no past Zelda game has done. In this story, Zelda and Link are residents of Skyloft, a city high in the clouds above Hyrule. Transportation is made possible by large birds, allowing you to fly from island to island. However, when Zelda disappears to the surface of Hyrule, Link is the only one with a chance of rescuing her.

Starfox 64 3D

Much like The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, Starfox 64 was originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1997. Also much like Ocarina of Time receiving a 3D upgrade on the Nintendo 3DS, Starfox 64 follows its footsteps and likewise receives a similar upgrade.  Titled Starfox 64 3D, this 3DS exclusive game shrinks Star Fox 64 down to portable form. Everything from the original Starfox 64 is included in Starfox 64 3D: the story mode and the battle mode are both included in this new version of the game. However, while the story mode is unchanged from Starfox 64, the battle mode has been redesigned. Starfox 64 3D does includes some additions over the previous game to help it take advantage of the 3DS’s capabilities.

In 1998, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time was a turning point for the Nintendo 64. Released early in the system’s life, it was an instant hit for both the Nintendo 64 and fans. Now, thirteen years later, Ocarina of Time returns in a way nobody expected it to: in portable form. The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time 3D, released exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS, takes the Nintendo 64 version and faithfully recreates it on the 3DS; every location, side quest and story element is exactly as you remember them. However, there have been a few changes made in Ocarina of Time 3D that will prompt even a series veteran to give the game another playthrough.

New Super Mario Bros

image description

by phnk

Since Mario’s 3D debut in Super Mario 64, every future game starring Mario has been rendered in 3D. While these games have all been great, fans of the classic 2D Super Mario games longed for a return to that style. With New Super Mario Bros, released exclusively on the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo has granted the wishes of those players. Featuring over 70 levels across eight different worlds, along with a hidden ninth world, New Super Mario Bros. is a game that will take some time to beat. While the gameplay remains similar to past 2D Mario games, even going so far as to having you hold the Wii Remote sideways to emulate an NES controller, New Super Mario Bros features some changes on the classic Mario formula.
