In the 80s and 90s, Sonic the Hedgehog, like much Mario, was a household name. Sonic has starred in over 20 games to date, ranging as far back as the Sega Genesis to current systems such as the Xbox 360. Sonic Generations, released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, is a celebration of the many years of Sonic the Hedgehog games. Sonic Generations features the 2D styled Sonic the Hedgehog, star of the classic Sega Genesis series of Sonic games, meeting his 3D counterpart, star of the Dreamcast to current generation Sonic games, for the first time. What this means in terms of gameplay is that each level in the game can be played in two different ways: in classic 2D styled gameplay or modern 3D styled gameplay, effectively doubling the level count.

Each of the nine stages, including a number of boss stages, each represents a different game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Levels include the Green Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog, City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2 and Rooftop Run from Sonic Unleashed. In addition to revisiting classic levels with high definition visuals, now you can experience these stages in a brand new way: either 2D or 3D. For example, for the first time ever you can explore the Green Hill Zone in 3D as modern Sonic or City Escape in 2D as classic Sonic.

The action is not over when the level is completed either; each level offers ten additional bonus challenges to complete. These challenges unlock additional artwork and music celebrating every Sonic game, including ones not featured in Sonic Generations. In addition, each level features ten red rings to find hidden in the levels, giving the 18 included levels a large amount of replayability.

Sonic Generations, releasing November 1st, 2011, is the perfect game for any Sonic the Hedgehog fan. Even as a collection of the series’ best levels, Sonic Generations includes something new for all players who have experienced these levels many times before.
