After Call of Duty: Modern Warfare moved the series into the present day, achieving great success, a sequel was inevitable. Enter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, soon available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. While much of the gameplay is still unchanged, this first-person shooter improves on a few elements of its predecessor in addition to introducing a new mode. Following the events of Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2’s story builds on the mounting tensions between Russia and the United States. Players once again control a member of the Task Force 101, working together with Soap, who players may remember as one of the protagonists of the first game; however, players will additionally control other characters at various parts of the story. Modern Warfare 2 tells a gritty story with many plot elements that some may find offensive; luckily, the option to skip them is present.

Once the single player campaign is completed, players can dive into the brand new Special Ops mode. In this mode, players choose from over 20 missions to complete, with goals ranging from eliminating all enemies to racing a snowmobile down a mountain. These missions can be played with a friend both offline and online and offer three different difficulty modes for each mission. Special Ops mode is perfect for players looking for a lot of action in only a short amount of time.

Multiplayer makes its return to Modern Warfare 2, with both offline and online play being available. While multiplayer is mostly unchanged from Modern Warfare, featuring the same experience-based ranking system, it has seen a few upgrades. Once specific conditions have been met, Perks can now be upgraded to Pro status, giving you extra bonuses while in battle. New kill streak bonuses have been added in addition to new maps and game modes, giving returning Modern Warfare players a reason to reenlist in multiplayer.

Modern Warfare 2, set to release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on November 10th, 2009, is the total package: a robust single player element combined with both co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes ensures you’ll be playing this game for a long time to come.
