Picking up where Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 left off, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, releasing on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, is the final game in the Modern Warfare trilogy. Like past games, you control a number of protagonists; however, the main protagonist in the game is Yuri, who is part of a task force consisting of Soap and Captain Price. The hunt for Makarov, the main villain in Modern Warfare 2, continues in Modern Warfare 3. Everything in Modern Warfare 3’s story is doubled in intensity, including the content; like Modern Warfare 2, such content may be offensive but like the previous game the option to skip such content remains.

Modern Warfare 3 also sees the return of Special Ops mode, which is mostly unchanged from its previous iteration; players still select a mission from an available list for quick gaming sessions alone or with others. However, new in this release is the Special Ops Survival gameplay variant, where players must face waves of enemies back to back. In between waves, players can purchase weapons and equipment to combat the growing number and skill of the enemy troops. Like the other Special Ops missions, Survival mode can be played with one other player either offline or online.

Multiplayer returns in Modern Warfare 3 with two big changes. Kill streak rewards are now much more easily obtained; in addition to rewarding players for killing a successive number of enemies, players can now earn rewards by killing a cumulative amount of players or by helping complete objectives. Also new in Modern Warfare 3 is the ability to raise a weapon’s level by using it. The more kills and objectives you complete with your chosen weapon allows you to gain new attachments and attributes for that weapon. Modern Warfare 3 also offers new perks, weapons and maps to create an experience similar to Modern Warfare 2 but unique in its own right.

By improving both its single player and multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 3, releasing on November 8th, 2011, took a franchise that was already at the top of its game one step further.
